Travel Articles for the 40-and-Over Crowd
By Roberta Beach Jacobson in Karpathos, Greece

40Plus Travel and Leisure is an e-zine just recently launched in the U.K. The editor, Steve Calder, is hungry for material. He welcomes all kinds of articles, from travel news and reviews to stories on where you might take a short city-break or an extended summer vacation.

The articles on the site fall into six main categories: culture, wine, gastronomy, disabled travel, ecotourism, and solo travel. The range of topics is broad here so there’s plenty of opportunity to place an article… or maybe even more than one.

I submitted an article on “white asparagus,” which you’ll find published online in the gastronomy section. You can read the article here: http://www.40plustravelandleisure.com/gastronomy/WhiteAsparagus.cfm.

I didn’t query first. I just sent my completed article to the editor. I only had to wait a few days for a response!

There still aren’t any Writer’s Guidelines on the website but you can contact the editor at the following e-mail address: editor@40plustravelandleisure.com (or you can phone him at 0870 87 901 40 if you live in the UK). Payments will be made in pounds sterling (paid by check in the mail).

Photos are not required. However, I provided photos with my first submission (though I see my husband, Alf Meier, didn’t get a photo credit when the story went live). I’ve just had my second article accepted, and I didn’t submit any photos with that.

Because this publication is just getting started, it’s an excellent place for you to land a by-line. Few freelancers know about it yet, and that means you’ve got less competition.
