Holiday Tip #5: Check Ticket Prices Just Like You Do the Weather

Today’s holiday travel tip is about finding the cheapest day to travel…

Airplane ticket prices can fluctuate by hundreds of dollars day to day, and with Farecast.com, you can see a graph of which days will be your cheapest bet over a 30-day period.

To get to the graph page, go to Farecast.com, scroll down to the bottom where it says “Travel Tools: Know When to Fly” and click “go.” On the next page, you can choose your departure and destination from the list of Farecast cities, and pick a 30-day date range.

I used this website to search for flights from Washington, DC to San Francisco in December and January. It was easy to see when prices are low (on Christmas day) and when they jump by $300 (three days later). This is an invaluable tool if you’re planning a trip and have some flexibility with your dates.
