January's Photo Challenge: Passages and Doorways

The month of January is named for Janus (Ianuarius), who in Roman mythology was the god of doorways. The word for door in Latin is (Ianua). January is the doorway into the New Year! So our photo challenge for January is Passages and Doorways.
With Passages and Doorways as a theme, you can be as specific and literal as you like. Or, if you prefer, use this theme as a way to work on your conceptual skills. Passages could be represented in any number of ways. After all, “passage” has not only architectural meaning, but musical, scriptural, and nautical meaning, too. In fact, it even has to do with a horse’s trot.
Let me remind you, however, that the more conceptual or allegorical you get, the more important your image description becomes. Be sure to provide one with your photo.
Passage, as it turns out, is also the name of a store in Saint Petersburg, Russia. And it’s a town in County Cork, Ireland, too. So if you happen to be in either of those parts of the world this month, shoot away.  (Just remember to write a good caption under your photo so your viewers know how your image relates to this month’s theme.)
Hope you all had a happy start to the New Year. And I look forward to your submissions for this month’s theme:  Passages and Doorways.
Submissions are due by 8:00 a.m. EST on Monday, January 28th.  You can submit your photos by clicking on the “Enter to Win” tab on our website: http://www.thephotographerslife.com.
Look for a list of December’s winners in next week’s Photo Tip.
