WHAT’S YOUR RESOLUTION?
Get fit. Eat better. Drink more water. Stop smoking. Take more photos. Learn to play the guitar. Spend more time with family. Have more fun.
What’s your New Year’s resolution for 2009?
Whether you make resolutions (and keep them) or not, you can certainly sell photos about them. Most people want to improve themselves in one way or another, and stock sites like iStockphoto.com are selling self-improvement shots left and right.
So, to give you some practice at taking stock-quality concept shots, January’s Photo Challenge Theme is: “What’s Your Resolution?”
Take an image that tells a story. If you’re not capturing your own resolution, you can still participate by shooting something that represents one of the many resolutions that people make.
Here are a few ideas to get you started…

[EDITOR’S NOTE: This month’s theme may force you to break out of your comfort zone in photography as you turn the camera upon yourself.
If wrinkles, blemishes, dark circles, and the other normal wear of life make you uncomfortable showing pictures of yourself to the world, don’t worry. You can learn how to “fix” the fault lines on your face in Photoshop… just like the pros do for Hollywood stars.
Shelly Perry, our resident photo expert and author of these weekly photo tips, is also the author of our new e-book, How to Look 10 Years Younger and 20 Pounds Lighter in Every Photo You Take. You’ll find it here.
Shelly’s images have been seen all over the globe on music CD covers, books, magazines, catalogs, websites, ad campaigns, and even on TV. Her work has also appeared in several local exhibits and gallery shows.
