Get Published in Papers: Two Readers' Success Stories

But what about your travel stories? Can you sell those to news sources, too?

Rumor has it newspapers aren’t doing so well. But that doesn’t mean you can’t try your luck getting your travel stories and photos published in one. In fact, we just got some encouraging news from two readers…

Just last month, Janett Zarecki proved it’s still possible to get published in papers when she pitched a brand new travel column to her local paper… and got the job.

Dear Lori,

Just a quick note to share some good news from me — Janett Zarecki, the chronic slow starter.

In April I made the decision to try my luck at travel writing — something I was pretty sure I could do, but had never attempted. I took my time diligently reading and digesting all the wonderful information published in the Ultimate Travel Writer’s Program.

Then, four weeks ago, I wrote to our local paper suggesting it add a regular travel column to its semi-monthly line-up. I included an article and photographs, then promptly left for a three-week vacation.

When I got back, the editor called saying he and the publisher liked my idea and my article and photos.

The new column began on Sept. 1, with MY article and photos making the first edition. Not only do I receive by-lines for each, but I’m also being paid! Not bad for a first attempt — and the editor has asked for additional articles.

Thanks to everyone for all your much-appreciated effort and continued follow-up that kept me on track.
