Get Published in Papers: Two Readers' Success Stories
Hi Reader,
Yesterday we told you about Wesay.com, where your newsworthy photos compete for monthly prizes. If you missed that issue, you can read it here: http://www.thephotographerslife.com/wesay
But what about your travel stories? Can you sell those to news sources, too?
Rumor has it newspapers aren’t doing so well. But that doesn’t mean you can’t try your luck getting your travel stories and photos published in one. In fact, we just got some encouraging news from two readers…
Just last month, Janett Zarecki proved it’s still possible to get published in papers when she pitched a brand new travel column to her local paper… and got the job.
Read her note to us below…

Dear Lori,
Just a quick note to share some good news from me — Janett Zarecki, the chronic slow starter.
In April I made the decision to try my luck at travel writing — something I was pretty sure I could do, but had never attempted. I took my time diligently reading and digesting all the wonderful information published in the Ultimate Travel Writer’s Program.
Then, four weeks ago, I wrote to our local paper suggesting it add a regular travel column to its semi-monthly line-up. I included an article and photographs, then promptly left for a three-week vacation.
When I got back, the editor called saying he and the publisher liked my idea and my article and photos.
The new column began on Sept. 1, with MY article and photos making the first edition. Not only do I receive by-lines for each, but I’m also being paid! Not bad for a first attempt — and the editor has asked for additional articles.
Thanks to everyone for all your much-appreciated effort and continued follow-up that kept me on track.

And Janett’s not the only one… here’s more good news from reader Heather Rath:
“Since joining your Ultimate Travel Writer’s Program, I’ve had two of my travel pieces published — one in Travel Post Monthly and one in The Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper.
“Because these acceptances have increased my confidence, I have travel writing projects continually on the go, despite a busy ‘other’ life. Thank you all for your inspiration.”
If you’d like to write for newspapers, but you’ve never been published before, consider starting locally, with smaller newspapers. One way to find a listing of local newspapers in your area is to use the state look-up tool on newspapers.com.
Tomorrow, I’ll send you a great issue from our e-letter archives that’ll help you develop a saleable story angle if you want to get published in newspapers.
