What Do You Like to Shoot? Why Having a Niche Can Help Sales

Many successful stock photographers will tell you that if you want to make money with stock photography, you should find a niche.
Having a specific subject that you like to shoot will help in a number of ways:

  • When you shoot what you like, you continue to have fun…
  • You’re more likely to stick with it…
  • You become an expert at shooting photos in your niche…
  • When you stick to one niche, the quality of your photos is likely to improve quickly…
  • You become known for shooting that subject, and designers will go to you to buy..

As a stock photographer, I’m still in search of my niche. I know that I like to photograph people. I also like setting up scenes with my “poster board studio.” I love the idea of food photography. And I know that I love travel photography, too.
What will my main “niche” be? I’m not sure, yet. I’m still experimenting.
How about you? Have you found your niche? What do you like to shoot best? Are you selling photos from that niche on stock sites?
Share your niche on the Breakfast StockClub Facebook page, or send me an email here and let me know:

  • How did you find your niche?
  • Are you selling any photos from your favorite niche as stock?
  • Can you share a few photos from your niche?

Next week, I’ll share reader responses.
If you haven’t found your niche, yet, keep experimenting!
