15 Step By Step Typography Effects Tutorial In Photoshop
1. Trace the Guy
The first thing to do is open the image that you are going to use. Then click ‘Quick Selection Tool’ and make a selection of the guy model by tracing it.
2. Duplicate the Layer
After tracing it, duplicate the background layer by right-clicking it and select duplicate layer.
3. Add a Layer Mask
After you made a duplicate of the background layer, select the duplicate then click the ‘Add Layer Mask’ icon located at the bottom of the layer panel.
4. Hide the Visibility of the Duplicate Layer
Click the ‘Eye’ icon located beside the duplicate layer to hide its visibility. We are only gonna use it later.
5. Add Black and White Adjustment Layer
Click the ‘Add New Fill or Adjustment Layer’ icon located at the bottom of the layer panel then select ‘Black and White’.Then adjust the Reds to -8 and the Yellows to 77.
6. Save it
Then go to ‘File’ menu and click ‘Save As’ then name it ‘Displacement’ and save it as Photoshop PSD file.
7. Delete the Black and White Fill
After saving it, delete the black and white fill by dragging it to the trash bin located below the layer panel. Or you can also just right click the Black and White layer Fill and select ‘Delete Layer’
8. Download Font
Go to Dafont.com to download the same font that I’m using which is Rough Note, or you can pick something else there, depending on your taste. It’s a free font download site.
9. Install the Font
Click your downloaded zip file and select the RoughNoteSample.otf and hit ‘Install’. Then let’s go back to Photoshop.
10. Use the ‘Type Tool’
Before we use the Type Tool, make sure you have copied the love poem or whatever text you want to appear on your effects. After you copied your text, select the background layer then click the ‘Type Tool’ and make a box using the Type Tool as shown in the image, then paste your text there. Then highlight the text then copy and paste it until you fill the image with text. Then make sure you changed the font style to Rough Notes and make the font color is black.
11. Create a New White Layer
First, double-click the Background layer to unlock it. Then click the ‘Create a New Layer’ icon located at the bottom of the layer panel and drag the new layer you created just below the background layer that you unlocked which is now named layer 0. Then click the ‘Paint Bucket Tool’, make sure your foreground color is ‘White’ then fill the new layer with white.
12. Add Displacement Map
Select the Text Layer and go to ‘Filter’ menu then select ‘Distort’ then ‘Displace’. When you see the Displace Pop up box, make sure you adjust the Horizontal Scale and Vertical Scale to 15. Then select the Displacement PSD file you saved earlier and click open.
13. Change the Opacity
Select Layer 0 and change the opacity to 30%. Then open the paper image and press CTRL + A to select it and press CTRL + C to copy it then paste it by pressing CTRL + V below Layer 0 and change its opacity to 90%.
14. Add Black and White Adjustment to Layer 0
Select Layer 0 and click the ‘Create New Fill’ icon and select ‘Black and White’. Then right-click the Black and White Fill and select Create Clipping Mask.
15. Add Curves Adjustment
Click the ‘Create New Fill and select ‘Curves’ then move the points as shown in the picture.
